LE SHRIMP RAMEN

Le Shrimp Ramen – more than just hae mee

Le Shrimp Ramen - Flatlay

Singaporeans are spoiled for choice when dining in town, but when a new food joint rolls out, we flock to it like moths to a flame. Adding on to the list of restaurants opened by Paradise Group is their latest concept, Le Shrimp Ramen. They have fused Japanese techniques with Chinese flavours and ingredients, bringing us an ambitious menu of shrimp broth ramen.

In celebration of their grand opening, Le Shrimp Ramen will be offering a 1-for-1 ramen all day from 7 to 9 December 2018. So mark your calendars!

Food at Le Shrimp Ramen

Le Shrimp Ramen - Le Signature Trio Shrimp Ramen

Le Signature Trio Shrimp Ramen ($19.90++) won’t go wrong as your default order. It features two fresh prawns, prawn dumplings, and ebiko prawn balls placed gingerly atop a bed of Chinese la mian.

Le Shrimp Ramen - Ramen Soup

This joyful bowl of noodles lifted our spirits and delighted our senses in terms of visual, scent, and taste. The broth was an opaque hue of deep orange, and the smoky aroma promised deliciousness to come.

Le Shrimp Ramen - Ramen Spoon

The flavour only proved that it was a broth cut from a different cloth – “the mother of all hae mee”, as my colleague puts it.

This game-changing shrimp-based broth is made from a tare of baked prawns and dried scallops. It is simmered for over eight hours, and added into a pork bone stock that’s boiled for a few hours with star anise, clove, and white peppercorn.

Le Shrimp Ramen - Stir-fry Cabbage

Hot scallion oil was used to stir-fry the diced cabbage, before pouring in the shrimp broth into the wok. This brought the dish up another level on the umami scale. I appreciate how even the cabbages were sweet from the caramelized edges, smoky from the slightly charred sides, and had a texture that was tender yet crunchy at the same time.

Le Shrimp Ramen - Prawn Dumplings

The two dumplings you get in the Le Signature Trio Shrimp Ramen are huge, as whole prawns are encased in it. The fillings were nicely seasoned and held a crunchy bite, thanks to the thinly sliced black fungus and well-cooked prawns.

Le Shrimp Ramen - Ebiko Prawn Paste

Though prawn balls are nothing new in Chinese food, these soft yet springy orbs are well worth your attention. The ebiko added some colour to the otherwise plain-looking topping. Pop each piece whole in your mouth to taste the full-bodied flavour.

Le Shrimp Ramen - La Mian Noodles

You might be expecting a mouthful of al dente ramen noodles, but the la mian here are silky and blanched to a soft consistency. These delicate strands are all handmade in-house, serving as a vessel for more broth to be slurped up.

Le Shrimp Ramen - Braised Pork Ribs Shrimp Ramen

If, like me, you’re hankering for your usual hae mee and pork ribs, order the Braised Pork Ribs Shrimp Ramen ($13.90++).

Le Shrimp Ramen - Braised Pork Rib

It comes with three huge chunks of braised pork ribs and oodles of noodles. They are huge but that doesn’t mean you’ll be willing to share.

A good bowl of prawn noodles lies in a few factors – the tasty broth, the texture of the noodles, and the chopstick-tender pork ribs. The braised meat slightly changes the flavour of the broth, bringing the sweetness from the prawns down a notch.

Le Shrimp Ramen - Ebiko Prawn Paste With Chilli Vinaigrette Ramen

When I first set eyes on the Ebiko Prawn Paste With Chilli Vinaigrette Ramen ($11.90++), it reminded me of Canton Paradise’s Pork Wanton in Chilli Vinaigrette.

Le Shrimp Ramen - La Mian Close Up

Give the dry ramen a good toss to coat each noodle evenly with vinegar and chilli oil. It might not look the part, but those who can’t take spicy food should give this a pass. Other than the sour punch from the vinegar, there is also a spicy undertone imparted by chopped red chilli and spices.

Le Shrimp Ramen - Long Jing Tea Lava Egg

They also offer their version of ramen egg, called Long Jing Tea Lava Egg ($1.90++). Here, soya sauce takes a backseat and makes way for a toasty aroma from green tea leaves.

Le Shrimp Ramen - Twister Prawn Rolls

I highly recommend ending the meal on another savoury note with the Twister Prawn Rolls ($5.90++). When paired with a dollop of mayonnaise, these crispy deep-fried prawn rolls are quite simply moreish.

Ambience at Le Shrimp Ramen

Le Shrimp Ramen - Ambience Shot

Tucked away at basement of Paragon, the restaurant is compact, modern, and spacious. Unlike squeezy ramen spots in Japan, no sharp elbows are required here. My favourite part is watching the bustling kitchen hum with activity like a well-oiled machine.

The verdict

Le Shrimp Ramen - Le Shrimp Ramen Verdict

Service here is attentive and charming, and prices are justified. It’s really value-for-money with the robustly flavoured dishes and generous portions. There is also tonkotsu broth ramen for those who prefer the classic porky variant.

With nothing above $20++, Le Shrimp Ramen had my colleague and I vowing to return, especially for the 1-for-1 deal!

Kellogg’s Cereal Kafe in Singapore

Kellogg's Cereal Cafe (2)

I grew up eating Kellogg’s Cereal. The early morning rush before school always saw me scarfing down Coco Pops, Frosties or Froot Loops. As I got older and more health conscious, I moved on to stocking my pantry with their range of Special K.

Kellogg's Cereal Cafe (3)

And while the new Kellogg’s Cereal Kafe in Singapore is far from London’s Cereal Killer, which serves up over 120 types of cereals, it is still rather interesting, as it is the first in Southeast Asia.

Located at Fairprice Xtra, in the basement of Ang Mo Kio Hub, Kellogg’s Cereal Kafe pushes out a variety of cereals including Corn Flakes, Mueslix, Rice Krispies and Special K.

Similar to a yoghurt bar, there are also a range of toppings to go with your cereal including dried cranberries, nuts, hazelnut spread, and goji berries. You can also opt between milk and yoghurt as the base.

Aside from cereals, the cafe also offers desserts and pastries such as muffins, cupcakes and parfaits  – all of which, I’m assuming, are made using Kellogg’s cereals.

It’s a sweet breakfast spot for the people of Ang Mo Kio, and I wish they open more stores islandwide! Do share with us in the comments section below what do you think of Kellogg’s Cereal Kafe.

McDonald’s Has A New Har Cheong Gai Chicken Cutlet At $2

Har cheong gai chicken cutlet at McDonald’s

Har cheong gai mcdonald's (2)

There’s no rest for the product development team at McDonald’s, as they just launched an all-new har cheong gai chicken cutlet –  known as Prawn Paste Chicken Cutlet – on the menu!

Har cheong gai mcdonald's (3)

Released together with the highly sought-after My Melody Food Holder, this crispy slab of chicken is priced at $2. The way it is served reminds me of MOS Burger’s MOS Chicken, where it comes in a small paper bag.

The item has a little hush-hush status, as it is not even showcased on the menu at the counter. Instead, you have to go through the e-kiosk and click under ‘New Items’ to score yourself a patty.

However, don’t fret that you won’t get a chance to snag it, as it is sold at all outlets and on GrabFood from now until 23 December.

Har-Cheong-Gai-Burger-Close-Up-Shot

We are pretty certain the patty is the same as the ones used in the Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger that released on National Day. Perhaps it is a case of supply and demand, and not many folks were demanding these burger thus the excess stock of HCG patties? One can only assume.

Har cheong gai mcdonald's (4)

For those who have not had the pleasure of trying the limited-edition har cheong gai burger, the patty comprised of a succulent chicken thigh that’s coated in panko crumbs. It packs an umami punch, although the fermented prawn flavour could be stronger. The golden brown skin is also really crispy, and unveils a fatty, glistening meat within. The cutlet can be a tad salty, so be prepared with a glass of coke.  It’s like McSpicy, without the heat.

On that note, I do wish McDonald’s bring back the a la carte McSpicy patties. That spicy fried chicken cutlet was da bomb. I would have two of those patties anyway!

Foodies following the Michelin awards would know that Chef Kang Kitchen has earned and kept his star in 2017 and 2018, respectively. And now, the mastermind behind the premium five-table restaurant has opened a hawker stall serving up wanton noodles and his famed char siew.

Chef Kang Wanton Noodles (3)

Just like Santa Claus, Chef Kang has a giving heart. He opened Chef Kang Noodle House so that his restaurant’s popular hot plate char siew could be more accessible to the masses. Usually priced at $18++ in the restaurant, the char siew at this toa payoh hawker will only cost you $10 for a sharing portion.

The hawker version is not served on a sizzling plate, but we assure you it stays true to the original recipe, where the pork belly is marinated overnight before being roasted in a charcoal oven. The chefs managing the stall have also been by Chef Kang’s side for seven years, so you can expect the same Michelin standard.

Order the Noodles with Char Siew and Wanton ($5) if you’re a solo diner. Here, Hong Kong-imported bamboo pole noodles are generously topped with the succulent charred pork and a smattering of lard.

On the side are two pieces of juicy shrimp and pork wantons. The noodles are as delicious as the char siew, with zero alkaline taste and a whole load of bounce.

Alternatively, go big or go home and get the Noodles with Shredded Abalone, Char Siew and Wanton ($10). It is essentially the same as the former noodle dish, but with an added oceanic tang from the marine snails.

Do leave an entire afternoon free if you want to score a bowl, as there’s a snaking queue that can take up to two hours.

Fans of putu piring will have heard of Haig Road Putu Piring. Around for over 80 years, the hawker stall has opened their first mall outlet at East Village, a short walk away from Simpang Bedok.

This air-conditioned eatery will offer more unique creations, unlike the OG stall in Haig Road Market & Food Centre, which only serves the traditional gula melaka-filled putu piring.

Look forward to toothsome treats such as the Chocolate ($3.70 for four pieces), featuring mini chocolate chips within the soft rice cakes. As it gets steamed, the chocolate melts to an oozy consistency, making it super decadent. It’s not too sweet too, which is a major plus.

If you are on #TeamDurian, the Durian ($4.20 for four pieces) is a must-get. Created for this year’s Singapore Heritage Festival, the putu piring is filled with D24 durian paste that’s slowly cooked in gula melaka. It has a subtle pungency, followed by a mellow sweetness.

They also offer the nonya kueh version of Coconut ($3.50 for four pieces). Boasting freshly grated coconuts, the filling is moist and full of flavour, pairing well with the warm steam cakes.

The putu piring here are all served in white boxes instead of brown food wrappers, making it easier to eat them on the go.

Putu piring is not the only thing on the menu. There’s also rojak from $4, which comes with you tiao and tau pok. An additional $2 is required if you want fruits.

They are also expecting to serve drinks such as tea and chendol in the future, once the stall has gotten into the groove of things.

Duckland at United Square

Duckland - Roast Duck with Special SaucesThe Tung Lok Group has expanded their restaurant empire yet again, with a casual duck-focused eatery at United Square. Opened in January 2019 at United Square Shopping Mall, Duckland is for those on #TeamDuck as their choice of protein.

Nearly everything on the menu features duck. From more common Asian dishes such as Roast Duck ($28++ for half, $50++ for whole duck) to unique Western creations including a scrummy Spaghetti Duck Bolognese ($13++) and  Duck Confit Waffle ($20++), which features a buttermilk waffle and sunny side up.

Duckland - Duck Confit & Waffle

However, based on online reviews, we reckon you should skip this waffle dish, as it is said to be rather lacklustre.

As a lover of duck fat fries, I can imagine how rich all the dishes will taste, as each and everyone of them are fried in duck fat. While this may sound unhealthy, duck fat is actually good for you as it helps reduce cholesterol levels. So you get delicious food, without much artery clogging badness.

For those who were crazy about London Fat Duck when they first opened, you will be glad to know that Duckland also uses the same prized Irish ducks from Silver Hill Farm. Known for being the best in the world, the ducks served here are extremely succulent, with a nice layer of fat to give it a rich flavour profile. And unlike those $15 whole ducks you get from coffee shop, the ducks here are far from gamey and boast a crispy skin when roasted.

Duckland - Irish Lamb Stew

Aside from duck grub, they also have other hearty, non-duck Irish dishes  This includes a comforting Irish Lamb Stew ($22++) featuring tender chunks of lamb, potatoes and carrots. The broth is rather punchy, with a slight heat from peppercorns and a strong rosemary tang.

Duckland - Bacon, Cabbage & Colcannon

Another dish that caught our interest was the Bacon, Cabbage and Colcannon ($20++ dish), which is a traditional Irish dish that’s commonly enjoyed on St Patrick’s Day.

People & Places Cafe brings the famed Melbourne brunch scene to Johor Bahru at a fraction of the price. With high ceilings and massive windows, this charming cafe carries an industrial loft feel that’s akin to cafes like Wheeler’s Yard in Singapore.

This atmosphere is juxtaposed with a scattering of plants, which injects a natural element into the urban architecture. The result is a stunning, spacious cafe, flushed with natural light that’s perfect for your next IG snap.

People & Places quesadilla brekkie

It wouldn’t be a true Melbourne-inspired cafe without beautiful, tasty brunch food to back up the aesthetic.

At popular item is the Quesadilla Brekkie (RM 25/~$8.22)a pretty platter of soft tortillas stuffed with tom yum scrambled eggs, chicken ham, tomatoes, sriracha aioli, coriander and cheddar cheese. Parmesan, pomegranate and pesto oil are then rained on, giving vivid pops of colour.

This creative Mexican-Thai plate is a welcome change from humdrum brunch fare like eggs Benedict. Its flavour combination is surprisingly successful, with the earthy tortillas holding the piquant yet creamy tom yum eggs well.

People & Places kampong eggs anyway

There are plenty of options for vegetarians or omnivores looking to slim down as well, such as the Kampong Eggs Anyway (RM10.5/~$3.46). It features orange-yolked kampong eggs cooked to your liking, pomegranate kernels, organic pea sprouts and pesto oil atop a slice of sourdough, making for a filling and fresh meal.

For carnivores who want to get in on the egg action, there’s the option to add Streaky Beef, Chicken Ham, Chicken Bratwurst Sausages or Smoked Salmon.

People & Places wild mushroom risotto

A more filling option, suitable for lunch, is the Wild Mushroom Risotto (RM28/~$9.23). This entails a creamy mushroom risotto topped with Parmesan, arugula, truffle oil and a gleaming kampong egg yolk. The savoury caramelised mushrooms and delectably creamy egg yolk are the stars of this dish, adding umami and depth to the dish.

People & Places latte

Don’t miss out on their coffee either, with their blends changing seasonally. The Latte (RM10.5/~$3.46) is smooth, milky, and slightly nutty, great for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Only available for senior citizens above 65, this offer falls on 11 February, which is the 7th day of the Lunar New Year this year. This special day is also known as renri or “everybody’s birthday”.

Popularly observed by Chinese all over the world, it’s the day where humans were said to be created. Singaporeans tend to celebrate this day by feasting on yu sheng and getting together with the family.

We managed to reach out to the owner of Hakka Lui Cha, Mrs Chan, who said that she wanted to give back to the community, especially to the senior citizens who frequent her store.

Loved by many as a health food, lei cha fan or Thunder Tea Rice ($3.50) is filled with loads of greens to give a variety of flavours and textures in a bowl.

This is all doused in an eye-catching bright green soup that contains tea, nuts and plenty of herbs, giving it its trademark greenish hue.

It’s a dish loved by many of the older folks, due to its simplicity in taste.

Lava Cheese Burger at TOBY’S The Dessert Asylum

lava cheese burger needle

From chicken rice burgers to Ramly burger cafes, the burger scene in Singapore has always been exciting, with plenty of new and innovative creations constantly popping up.

Fresh out of the griddle is a Lava Cheese Burger ($14.50+) from TOBY’S The Dessert Asylum. The burger is presented with a thick beef patty that is sandwiched between buttery toasted buns. And with it comes a massive syringe filled with hot and gooey nacho cheese, which is directly injected into the burger.

lava cheese burger flow

The melted cheese flows out of the burger, resulting in a thick and gooey mess. It will get quite messy though, so be prepared to get your hands dirty.

lava cheese burger double beef

Injecting a burger with cheese might sound a little gimmicky, especially when it can be simply poured over the burger.

But this unique method ensures the cheese is served piping hot, resulting in a thicker and viscous consistency that coats the burger.

lava cheese burger beef patties

Located in Jurong East, the restaurant only uses 100% beef patties. This means there’s no onions or fillers in the thick disks of meat.

They are also given a nice sear on the griddle, before being finished off in an oven. This two-step cooking process ensures that the meat remains juicy without being overcooked.

lava cheese burger double beef patties

For those who want to add additional oomph to their burgers, an extra patty is available at $4+. It’s quite a good deal considering the single patty burger costs $14.50+.

lava cheese burger toby dessert

The burger also comes with a side of paprika-dusted fries. The spice powder gave a mild spiciness to the fried potatoes, but also a subtle sweetness that is nice when combined with the nacho cheese sauce.

The restaurant is also known for serving up tasty pizzas, with their Stewed Pork Pizza ($15.90+) being a favourite among regulars.

The dough is rolled to a thin crust and slathered with a special white garlic sauce instead of the usual tomato variant. Shredded pieces of stewed pork are then scattered around the pizza, along with thinly sliced onions.

lava cheese burger stewed pork pizza

The creamy and rich garlic sauce combined with tender stewed pork makes for a tasty combination. I also liked how the house-made pizza dough was nicely stretched, giving a good bite and holding up the condiments well.

Try McDonald’s new Popcorn Caramel ice-cream

mcdonald's popcorn caramel ice cream flatlay

Before we could even satisfy our Samurai Burger and Twister Fries cravings, McDonald’s has already come up with a spankin’ new item this 2019. This time, it’s a new dessert line called Popcorn Caramel.

The yellow-hued ice-cream was just released today and we can only presume will be the talk of the town once news gets out.

mcdonald's popcorn caramel ice cream treat

There are five sweet treats for you to beat Singapore’s heat with, namely Popcorn Caramel Hot Fudge Sundae ($2), Popcorn Caramel McFlurry® ($3), Popcorn Caramel Chococone Soft Serve ($1.20), Popcorn Caramel Cone ($1), and Popcorn Caramel Twist Cone ($1).

Naganuma Ice Co Review: Famous Hokkaido Creme Brulee Soft Serve At Tanjong Pagar

We liked how the popcorn ice-cream is not too sweet and has a nice creamy mouthfeel. However, we wished it was less milky, with a stronger popcorn flavour. There was none of that buttery goodness too, which you would normally expect in popcorn. That being said, it did make for a lovely post-fast food treat, as it was not too heavy on the palate.

The twist cone is our favourite, as the vanilla soft serve uplifted the flavour of the Popcorn Caramel ice-cream. Pus, it’s the same price as the normal soft serve, making it the most affordable Popcorn Caramel ice-cream of them all – you won’t have to dig your ang baos to enjoy this new treat.

Mcdonald's popcorn caramel mcflurry

The McFlurry is another must-try, where the smattered Oreos paired really well with the ice-cream.

mcdonald's popcorn caramel ice cream hot fudge sundae

Skip the Popcorn Caramel Hot Fudge Sundae, as it can get really decadent. This version if you didn’t already know comes doused in a thick, sticky chocolate sauce, making it super cloying. Plus, the chocolate and treacly popcorn flavour clashed, and left us begging for a glass of ice water to wash it all down.

Exclusively sold at McDonald’s 37 Dessert Kiosks, you won’t be able to score this treat via McDelivery or at any regular McDonald’s outlet. For those shopping around town, the only McDonald’s Dessert Kiosks in the area are at Lucky Plaza and Plaza Singapura.

Subway Now Has Limited-Time Egg Mayo Subs With Chicken Strips, Beef Pepperoni & Salami

Subway Egg Mayo Feature Image

Egg Mayo subs at Subway

Subway Egg Mayo Golden Egg

When Subway became halal certified a few months back, I finally stopped FOMO-ing whenever my friends raved about sandwiches like the Meatball Marinara Melt, Cold Cut Trio and Roast Beef. As someone who loves meat, I get an unbridled joy devouring all that beef and chicken – blissful in the fact that it’s also good for my waistline.

After days of CNY feasting, it seems like their new Golden Egg subs came at the right time.

Subway Egg Mayo Sandwich

Basically, these limited-edition sandwiches are your classic Spicy Italian and Chicken Strip slathered with an egg-bundance of creamy egg mayo. That’s right – you’re getting two Subway flavours in one toastie!

Thankfully, these heavy items are light on your wallet – going at $7.80 a la carte, and $8.80 for a combo which includes a 16-oz drink. Just like the rest of their offerings, you can customise the bread used in each sub. We opted for the Multi-Grain to go with our Egg Mayo & Chicken Strips.

Subway Egg Mayo Image

Let me preface this by saying that egg mayo is something I wouldn’t normally choose at Subway. So I was shocked – and pleasantly surprised – to learn that it actually goes really well with meat. It gave a sense of decadent richness that made me smile in delight. It was that delish.

The sandwich features thick cuts of roasted chicken breast, slathered with rich egg mayo. I liked how, despite the generous amount of egg, it didn’t overpower the taste of the other ingredients. My wallet will be sad when these sandwiches leave the menu, because I will def’ only eat Subway with an additional topping of egg mayo forever and ever.

Subway Egg Mayo (1)

For hardcore beef lovers, the Egg Mayo & Spicy Italian is definitely for you! Hidden beneath this sandwich are layers of beef pepperoni and salami. Coupled with the egg, this combi packs a whole lotta’ protein for dem gainz. #bulkingup

Subway Egg Mayo Limited-Time

The explosion of flavours is more prominent in this sub. The pepperiness of the beef and the richness of the egg work in tandem to amplify the umami here.

Personally, I loved both sandwiches but if I had to choose my absolute favourite, it’ll be the Egg Mayo & Chicken Strips.

Subway Egg Mayo Pineapple Cookie

For most of us, pineapple tarts rank high on the list of delish treats. Thankfully, Subway is #woke enough to recognise that, which is why the Pineapple Cookie ($1 with either Egg-bundance sub or $1.60 ala carte) is welcomed news.

We highly recommend getting it as it’s like eating a jumbo pineapple tart! The chewy cookie is chock-full of pineapple filling, giving it an indulgent taste that’s worth the calories. I will have this over a pineapple tart any day.

The verdict

Subway Egg Mayo Verdict

As someone who’s not the biggest fan of egg mayo, I was honestly egg-cited by these two sandwiches. The eggs were creamy and worked well with the other ingredients to bring forth a delightful mouthfeel.

If you’re clamouring to sink your teeth into these beauties, be sure to head to any Subway outlet from now till 28th February 2019 as these will be available for a limited time only!

Mac N’ Cheese Zinger from KFC

KFC mac and cheese zinger burger

The next time you’re planning to Netflix and chill, be sure to give KFC a call because you def’ want to get your hands on their new Mac ‘N Cheese Zinger. Available from 13 February 2019, this cheesy creation may just earn the title of being the most decadent fast food dish in town.

Comfort food at its best, the zhnged-up Zinger burger swaps the usual sesame seed buns for deep-fried mac and cheese patties.

KFC mac and cheese

Fried until crisp, the breaded golden brown patty opens up to reveal compressed elbow macaroni pasta in creamy cheese. And if that’s not indulgent enough, the Mac ‘N Cheese Zinger also comes stacked with crispy turkey bacon as well as a generous slather of their signature KFC cheese sauce. Lettuce is also added in to help balance out the richness of this sumptuous burger.

KFC Mac and cheese zinger

All this together with the crunchy, succulent slab of chicken fillet, makes for a hearty feast we will gladly unbutton our jeans for.

KFC mac and cheese burger

Get it as a meal, which comes along with a side of regular-sized whipped potato and Pepsi, at $8.95. Alternatively, share the love with bae this Valentine’s Day and order the KFC Mac ‘N Cheese Zinger Box ($10.95). The box comes filled with the scrummy burger, a piece of fried chicken, regular-sized fries, whipped potato and Pepsi. Of course, if you have a huge appetite, you can enjoy the entire box on your own.

Judging by how delicious their Mozzarella Zinger Burger and Parmesan Truffle Chicken were, we are certain this new burger will be finger-lickin’ good too.

If you can’t wait until 13 February to sate your mac ‘n cheese cravings, head to Five Oars Coffee Roasters for their creamy mentaiko mac and cheese!

Instant noodles are universally loved for its convenience. After all, who doesn’t love indulging in a piping hot bowl of noodles when hunger strikes in the middle of the night? For instant noodles aficionados seeking variety from Samyang and Maggi, you will be pleased to hear that you can now buy uni (sea urchin) flavoured instant noodles in Singapore!

Meidi-Ya at Liang Court is one of the first few supermarkets to import the Nissin Rich Sea Urchin Cream Cup Noodles a flavour released in Japan last November into Singapore. Priced at $3.80 each, the noodles are packaged in an alluring black and golden cup.

Uni Noodle Interaction Shot

Unfortunately, these noodles contain only 6.9% of real sea urchin, which is combined with other ingredients to recreate an authentic uni flavour. The broth is a white-cream based, with uni slices and butter-flavoured paste enhancing the soup’s creamy taste. Diced broccoli are provided as well to inject crunch into the noodles.

If you want to enjoy a taste of uni on a low-SES budget, this noodles are a great option to consider.

Coco Ichibanya Curry Udon

Meidi-Ya at Liang Court boasts a dizzying array of unique Japan imports, and another rare find within its premises is the Coco-Ichibanya Curry Udon ($3.50). Collaborating with manufacturer Acecook in recreating their signature curry flavour, the curry udon contains ingredients such as curry powder, pork extract, leek and shimeji mushroom. Yuzu is also added for a touch of citrusy sweetness in the curry. Owing to the thickness of the udon strands, the curry udon requires a slightly longer cooking time of five minutes.

Coco Ichibanya Curry Soba

Another flavour you can enjoy is the Coco Ichibanya Curry Soba ($3.50) as well. The soba noodles are thinner and are accompanied by a mix of ingredients such as yam, egg, onion, garlic and bean curd!

Andaz weekend dim sum buffet

Andaz’s weekend dim sum buffet

Andaz Dim Sum Buffet Spread

Weekends are for brunches. And Andaz’s new dim sum buffet at Auntie’s Wok And Steam is set to be the hottest spot for brunch lovers in town. Held only on weekends and public holidays, the Yum Cha Weekends buffet is priced at $35++ per person and is a real steal, considering the fancy location, great service and delicious dishes served.

Andaz Dim Sum Buffet Wagyu Mantou

The spread isn’t crazy huge, but the quality of ingredients and dishes make up for it. Showcasing a selection of traditional Cantonese dim sum, local favourites as well as modern creations, diners can expect to find familiar favourites such as har gow and siew mai, as well as more unique ones, namely their Wagyu Short Rib Mantou Sliders.

Andaz Dim Sum Buffet - Scallop Siew Mai

What I enjoyed about their dim sum was that they came fully packed with fresh ingredients. The Scallop Siew Mai for instance, was a real treat, with chunks of sweet and firm scallop encased in a translucent packaging. The only qualms we have with it was how it looked like a har gao instead.

Andaz Dim Sum Buffet Fried Food

There are also plenty of fried goodies, including a scrummy prawn roll and yam puff filled with chicken bits. The latter was absolutely delish, with an earthy, smooth yam paste juxtaposed against the spiced chicken bits.

Andaz Dim Sum Buffet Yum Puff

All the dim sum items are served on an a la carte basis. Similar to Swee Choon, you are required to note down the number of dishes you want to order on a piece of paper. Do note that the chef’s signatures comprising wagyu sliders, scallop siew mai and lobster congee are limited to one serving per person.

While you wait for your food to be served, you can hit up the buffet line which serves filling carbos. These include Organic Wok-Fried Rice, carrot cake and fried noodles. They also have some old-school desserts that grandparents will enjoy including barley and luo han guo.

Andaz Dim Sum Buffet Barramundi Fillet

There are also mains, which you can add on at $10++ per dish. Sure to delight taste buds is the Deep-Fried Barramundi Fillet that’s served in a pool of light soya sauce.

Andaz Dim Sum Buffet Pork

The Deep-Fried Pork Belly is another great main to top-up, with its crisp outer layer that reminded us of har cheong gai.

For tipplers looking to booze up their weekend, an additional $35++ will get free-flowing wine, Prosecco, and beer.

The buffet runs from 12pm to 2:30pm and advance reservations are highly recommended, as the place gets packed real quick.

Halal wedding catering by Rasel Catering Singapore

Rasel Catering spread food

When it comes to wedding catering, selecting the right one can be tedious. From the wedding venue to choosing food that everyone will enjoy, there are just so many things to consider.

Having attended a couple of weddings, food is definitely an important factor for me. That and a picturesque location make for the perfect setting to celebrate the love of two individuals.

One caterer to take note of is Rasel Catering Singapore. With over 22 years of experience, this homegrown catering business is known for their beautiful thematic setups and halal-certified fare, making it a trusted name in the industry.

Rasel Catering decorations

They have a wide range of wedding packages such as Chinese banquets and Western sit-downs. For their church buffet packages, prices start from $18+ per person. This features a fully customisable buffet line-up with four menus to choose from.

For a mix between form and function, get the Lavish ($28+ per person) which comes with an artisan dough bar, live station, savoury section, dim sum, and dessert table.

Rasel Catering Bread station

The dough bar features a wide variety of savoury pastries, stuffed croissants, and charcoal buns.

Rasel Catering artisan dough bar

The croissants were light and crispy, with a rich buttery flavour. There are also a wide variety of fillings, with assorted mushrooms and peppery egg mayonnaise mixing well with the flaky pastry.

Rasel Catering roast chicken

There are also live stations, all of which are expertly manned by a chef. Look forward to the 4-Hour Sous Vide And Roasted Whole Chicken Infused With Dry Ginger Ale. The tender bird is carved right before your eyes and served together with oven-baked root vegetables.

Rasel Catering chilli crab donburi

The customisable menu means you can change the dishes to suit your preference. Top up $3+ per guest for the Signature Chilli Crab Donburi. This dish combines creamy chilli crab sauce with crispy breaded prawn and cubed deep-fried mantou. All of this is then piled on top a fluffy bed of Jasmine rice.

Rasel Catering chilli crab donburi sauce

I like how there are eggy bits inside, giving the sauce a nice and thick consistency. It’s recommended to mash up the onsen egg and give the donburi a good mix so that you get all the rich flavours.

Rasel Catering chilli fish

The package also includes several mains, such as the fiery Fried Fish with Nyonya Chilli. Spice lovers will like this dish as there’s an intense kick coming from the chilli-padi-laced sauce.

There’s also a pretty Traditional Seafood Pie that’s filled with chunky bits of prawn and fish. Crusted whipped potatoes are then topped onto it for a rich and decadent treat.

Rasel Catering laksa maggie goreng

Wok Fried Laksa Goreng is another option for carb lovers, with prawns and squid fried together with the noodles. While it’s easy to confuse this with the usual seafood pasta, the laksa leaves give this dish a fragrant and aromatic boost.

Rasel Catering dessert table spread

It’s hard to say no to desserts, especially when they come in a myriad of flavours and colours. Looking good in cute bite-sized portions, there’s a wide variety of puffs and cakes to choose from.

Rasel Catering chocolate eclair

Chocolate Eclair, Cream Puff and Hokkaido Cheesecake are just a few of the pastries available. In line with this joyous occasion, edible silver pearls are placed onto the eclairs, giving them a luxurious touch.

Rasel Catering dessert table

There is also a wide range of cakes on offer, with an array of colourful designs for guests to choose from.

Rasel Catering outdoor wedding

Rasel Catering Singapore also offers bespoke wedding packages, which include both catering and venue. This helps to save the hassle of sourcing for both separately. You can also save on costs as there will be special bundled rates.

Rasel Catering ifly sentosa

They have a wide variety of venues, which include Gardens by the Bay, The Arts House, and Sky Garden in Sentosa. Showcased in this article is the Sky Garden in Sentosa, boasting a wide rooftop alfresco area that overlooks the beautiful sea.

Rasel Catering magical theme

Each wedding package also lets you choose from four different themes such as Garden, Enchanted Blue, Joy-metric and Backyard Romance that come complete with an elaborate setup and biodegradable ware.

Rasel Catering joy-metric

New to the lineup of exciting themes is the Joy-metric theme. This magical setup features plenty of soft and pastel colours, along with a slight ode to nature with eucalyptus and hydrangea flowers.

The Feather Blade: Get Free Flat Iron Steak Worth $21++ On 2 March 2019 At Club Street

the feather blade flat iron steak

The Feather Blade pop-up

The Feather Blade Steak

There’s a flat iron steakhouse in town for the whole of March and April, and you can find it at Zui Hong Lou. Running for eight weekend evenings, The Feather Blade starts off on 2 March 2019 with a bang, by offering their signature The Feather Blade Steak for free to all.

That’s right. You can get 200 grams of steak just because you read this post and are informed!

10 British Food In Singapore That Will Take You Back To Borough Market In London

A passion project by 27-year-old Sheen Jet Leong, The Feather Blade came about after Jet Leong was inspired by his one-year stint at London’s famous Flat Iron Steak.

The Feather Blade - Free Flat Iron Steak

What makes this cut of beef special is that it’s cheap, yet as tasty and tender as sirloin . Cut from the shoulder of the cow, The Feather Blade Steak ($21++) – more commonly known as flat iron steak or butlers’ steak – is full of robust meaty flavour.

However, obtaining this rare cut is not all there is to creating the perfect steak. It’s far more tedious, as you are required to carefully remove the gristly fibre tissue lest the juicy red meat be tough and rubbery.

The Feather Blade does it well, as proven by the steak’s buttery texture. But the star of the dish is the generous spritz of brown butter as well as the smattering of smoked salt, both of which lent a touch of decadence to the beefy slab.

Diners are allowed to choose from four house-made sauces, namely Sichuan Peppercorn, Bearnaise, Horseradish Cream and Red Wine at $2++ each. The ma la was the most interesting, with a slight heat coming through the velvety sauce. That being said, the rest of the sauces were forgettable and did not complement the flavour of the steak, masking it entirely instead. My recommendation is just to have the steak as is.

The Feather Blade Sides.

Complete your meal with some sides ($7++ each) to share. Although you can choose from Mushrooms, Potatoes, Spinach and Corn, we rather you just stick to the latter two for a truly satisfying meal.

The sweet corn kernels are tossed in a white sauce that’s nice and milky. It is also said to have truffle salt within, but we guess it was under seasoned as we couldn’t taste any earthy richness. That being said, if you forget about the truffle, the corn is truly a delicious side to have.

London’s Burger & Lobster Is Finally Opening In Singapore At Jewel Changi Airport

The Feather Blade pop-up will run from 2 March 2019 to 28 April 2019, every Saturday and Sunday from 5:30pm to 1am.

Address: 90 Club Street, Singapore 069458

McDonald’s Chocolate Pie – it’s back

Avengers, Eminem’s Relapse and Recovery, the Harry Potter books, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before – all the best things in life have a sequel. This time, it’s McDonald’s Chocolate Pie returning for an epic round two in the Singaporean market.

Mark your calendars for Friday, 22nd February, because that’s when ravenous legions of Singaporeans will finally be able to get their paws on this pie after its agonising absence.

mcdonald's chocolate pie eatbook

With its gooey chocolatey interior and instantly recognisable crisp pie pastry, this sweet treat was a massive hit on its initial release. Not only was its molten interior perfect for Instagram, it had the flavour to back it up.

Despite its abundance of chocolate in both the filling and crust, it wasn’t overly sweet. The creamy interior exploded on our palates, and was well-contrasted by a hint of salt from its crispy crust.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you: be prepared to queue. McDonald’s usually keeps new items around for a month, but the popular pie flew off the shelves so fast last year, it was sold out within two weeks from its appearance. Here’s to hoping the pie makes more than just a cameo this time around!

mcdonald's chocolate pie filling

It’s unlikely that McDonald’s will let this pie loose on the market all by its lonesome self, so watch this space for more new dishes over the next few days.

When you join the queue for this parcel of choccy goodness, why not go all-in on indulgence by trying out McDonald’s brand new Popcorn Caramel ice-cream line, released earlier this month.

McDonald’s New Popcorn Caramel Ice-Cream In Both McFlurry And Sundae Forms

The Popcorn Caramel McFlurry will set you back $3, but cheaper options are available in the Popcorn Caramel Chococone Soft Serve ($1.20), Popcorn Caramel Cone ($1), and Popcorn Caramel Twist Cone ($1). With the sweltering weather at the moment, you can never have enough ice-cream to beat the heat!

Udon Kamon - Feature Image

Udon Kamon at Suntec City

Udon Kamon - Sanuki Udon IntroImage credit: Udon Kamon’s Facebook page

Just like most Singaporeans, I’m constantly on the prowl for attractive bargains and my interest was certainly piqued when I got wind of Udon Kamon’s upcoming 1-for-1 promotion at Suntec City.

Here’s how it works: from 21 to 23 February, the lower priced udon comes free with every two bowls of udon ordered. With their udon dishes priced as low as $9.80++, you only have to pay $4.90++ for a filling bowl of udon. Now that’s value for money!

Udon Kamon - Udon Preparation
Image credit: Udon Kamon’s Facebook page

Opened at Eat at Seven in January, Udon Kamon serves up Sanuki udon while also offering the widest range of udon broths in Singapore. The most popular form of udon in Kagawa – often dubbed the “Udon Prefecture – these noodles are characterised by their squarish appearance and flat edges.

Their signature udon is freshly made from Japanese wheat flour, salt, and water on a daily basis and boasts a firm and chewy texture.

Udon Kamon - Smoked Duck Udon
Image credit: Udon Kamon’s Facebook page

My favourite out of all the broths available is the shoyu-based dashi broth. In preparing the soup, premium bonito, which is directly imported from Kagoshima, is used. As the bonito has been aged for at least two years, the broth is bursting with umami.

If you are lost for choice from their dizzying array of shoyu-based udon, we recommend getting the Smoked Duck Udon ($11.80++), which features smoked duck breast air-flown from Italy!

Udon Kamon - Prawn Tonkotsu Udon

Another crowd-pleaser is their Prawn Tonkotsu Udon ($14.80++). The tonkotsu broth is slow-cooked for eight hours and delights with its creamy texture and rich flavours. The udon is peppered with sakura ebi and tiger prawns, as well bouncy balls of house-made prawn paste.

Udon Kamon - Tom Yum Spicy Udon

Image credit: Udon Kamon’s Facebook page

Should you enjoy Thai cuisine, check out their Tom Yum Spicy Udon ($13.80++)! Created from a blend of central and northern Thai tom yum, the piquant broth greets your mouth with a burst of zestiness. The udon is a feast as it comes with ingredients such as prawns, mussels, asari clams, squid, straw mushrooms, and tofu! Unlike the regular udon dishes, the noodles here are served in a hot stone bowl, ensuring that the broth is kept piping hot.

Udon Kamon - Magma Spicy Udon
Image credit: Udon Kamon’s Facebook page

For a fiery challenge, try the Magma Spicy Udon ($13.80++)! Served with tiger prawns, kampong chicken breast meat and ajitama (Japanese marinated soft-boiled egg), the udon will load you up with all the protein you need!
